Modules
Year 1
Students will learn principles of drawing and sketching as applied to industrial design. They will study the effect of light in the creation of an illusion of three-dimensional surface. Additional and fundamental work will be done with color, properties and indication of materials, perspective, and manipulation.
This course is an introduction to aspects of the virtual world in the creation of objects, and it will emphasize the interactivity needed when working in multidisciplinary projects.
Students will learn how to use software programs for making models. They will compare it with hand-power tools and materials such as clay, plaster, wood, fiberglass, plastics, and metals for model making. They will learn how to finish scale models from original designs and surface development. Presentation of digital images complemented by hand made models.
Students will be introduced to the relationships between product (and component part) design, the materials they are made from and the manufacturing processes used to create components and assemble them into products. They will examine economic and social constructs for design. They will also study the resources and evolution of style in mass-produced products. They will learn methodology, with emphasis on research, problem identification and analysis, and creative problem solving. Students will work on projects, both in large scale and full scale, and will explore the nature of materials, the discovery of new materials. They will also investigate the art of detailing.
Students learn to use different software programs that allow them to explore three-dimensional form, and structural Technology Systems. Each student will work individually in particular construction systems, and they will develop it through planning, design development, and detailing. Emphasis will be placed on construction technology and historical development.
This course is an introduction to the professional practices of industrial design. Students will examine the economic and social inspiration for design, as well as resources and evolution of style in mass-produced products. They will learn methodology, with emphasis on research, problem identification and analysis, and creative problem solving.
Each student works individually with a particular construction system and develops it through planning, design development, and detailing. Emphasis will also be placed on construction technology and historical development.
Students will be introduced to the wide variety of manufacturing processes. Emphasis will be placed on the cost and other relationships between product design, production volumes, materials, and methods of manufacturing.
This course is an introduction to the professional practices of interactive multimedia. Students will examine the social and economic motives for designing. Resources and evolution of style n mass-produces products. They will also study methodology, with emphasis on research, problem identification and analysis, and creative problem solving.
Students will explore the role of technology and mass media in shaping our experiences of the world. They will learn how to use multimedia for project development and marketing purposes.
Working in large scale or full scale on projects, students will study the nature of materials, discover new materials and investigate the art of detailing. They will explore designing computer interfaces and products/objects that only exist in a temporal dimension or virtual space.
Students learn how to use different software programs that allow them to explore three-dimensional form. These will provide a very wide field of project working process through network between different working places. Today, computers and digital media are legitimate media.
Students explore concepts relating to the definition and the ordering of spaces through the study of plane, light, color, and form. Emphasis will be placed on the design of small spaces as a basis for the exploration of three-dimensional design principles and the presentation of the final package.
This course will introduce students to the use of cutting edge technologies in the environment of design processes. Emphasis will be placed on the application of these technologies for the analysis of design alternatives.
Students will explore the different ways that people interact with their working and living environment, in both personal, public, and industrial spaces. Students are expected to complete a series of design layouts for different purposes.
Students will learn about the diversity of transportation systems currently used around the world, with particular attention to their strengths and weaknesses. Emphasis will be on the identification of evolutionary trends in transportation, as well as on the key issues concerning the design of specific systems. Students will also examine a specific transportation system in depth.
This course is an introduction to technology, mechanics, human factors, and safety concerns for personal and commercial vehicle design. Emphasis is on vehicle form, proportion, and the visual depiction of original designs. This course also centers on the research and application of new technologies in design projects, three-dimensional computer graphics, interior vehicle studies, and coordination of exterior and interior design.

This course introduces students to the typical stages and processes of vehicle manufacturing. Emphasis will be placed on considering the inter-working of hierarchies of component and sub-assembly suppliers, as well as the downstream distribution of vehicles after final assembly. Particular reference will be given to the impact of production and sales volumes on vehicle design.
Year 2
The Dissertation is the capstone module for the course, which integrates the taught materials and tests the student’s depth of understanding of the field and their ability to work independently within it. Students work individually with a supervisor to create a masterwork, relating this effort to an understanding of the marketplace, the research literature and theory underpinning it and the practicalities of implementing it.
Students examine the role of research and investigation as it relates to design. They also learn about popular and successful strategies and approaches to conducting design research and gain practical experience of carrying out design research studies.
