On the 16th and 17th of April (previous Saturday and Sunday), Macau University of Science and Technology had host The Supernova English Debate Tournament 2016. This is a novice tournament that had debaters from institutions of Macau, Hong Kong and China, which invited very intelligent judges including the best debater of Asia and the WUDC tournament’s highest speaker point debater.
USJ EDS had sent Andrew Jong and Carman Kuok to participate in the tournament as debaters. Furthermore, myself and Victory Igbinobaro (the president of USJ EDS) had participated as adjudicators and Mukeh Kanagbo (USJ EDS coach) was invited to be the adjudication core.
Unfortunately, USJ team did not break into semi-finals, but they had learned a lot from the tournament. Andrew, as a first timer to debate tournament, learned a lot about how tournaments work, matters from different motions and techniques. Carman, on the other hand also learned a lot about different techniques in debating. Both of these debaters are going to the UADC tournament in Thailand, which is coming up in the end of May.
Once again, thank you for all the support from USJ. We ensure our biggest effort and contribution to the USJ EDS. More competitions and tournaments will be coming up soon, including the 2nd AP and UADC.
