The seminar addressed conceptual aspects of the creative and cultural industries in China and the West, especially Europe, and the implications for public policy in these regions.



The Faculty of Arts and Humanities at the University of Saint Joseph (USJ) Macao organized a seminar on “Creative and Cultural Industry: Perspectives from Europe, Portugal, and China” on the 13th of June at the Ilha Verde Campus. The event featured local prominent experts providing insights into the development of the creative and cultural industries in the different regions.

The seminar addresed conceptual aspects of the creative and cultural industries in China and the West, especially Europe, and the implications for public policy in these regions. Speakers also presented critical indicators on the growth of cultural and creative industries in Portugal, Europe, and China, including the Guangzhou region.

According to Prof. José Manuel Simões, Head of the Media, Art & Technology Department at USJ, this seminar opened new perspectives for the creative and cultural industry in general and in particular in China and in Europe.

Invited speakers included Dr. Rui Pedro Cunha, Director and General Manager of C&C Lawyers and Vice-President of the Rui Cunha Foundation, José Carlos Matias, CEO of the media group Project Asia Corporation and the Director of Macau Business magazine, Prof. Paulo Faustino, Professor at the University of Porto’s Faculty of Arts and Humanities, and director of the Master’s in Communication and Management of Creative Industries, and José Miguel Encarnação, Editor of the Portuguese Section of O Clarim and Correspondent for Aid to the Church in Need Pontifical Foundation.
