Good afternoon, everyone. My name is Mafalda Ramos, a Bachelor of Communication and Media graduate. It is an honor to be here today, representing my fellow classmates on this memorable occasion to express gratitude to the University.

It’s such an exciting feeling and a privilege to stand here today. On behalf of everyone, I want to thank those who have helped us along the way, pushed us to try new things, shared their knowledge that we will carry on forever, and, most importantly, helped us thrive and see what we are capable of. We were fortunate to have your support. Your patience and guidance have been invaluable, and you are not taken for granted.

Coming into this University four years ago, I didn’t know what to expect. My head was filled with questions like “Who are my teachers going to be? What are the classes going to be like? Why are the elevators always in maintenance?”. I quickly started to get deadlines, assignments, and projects, all of which would get slightly more challenging. However, due to Covid restrictions, the biggest challenge was doing half of it in online classes and not having the professors present. It tested me; it pushed me to my limits, but I did not break. Maybe a little, but it showed me that I can achieve my goals regardless of the circumstances. My colleagues and I created beautiful Capstone projects at the end of this journey. “It took us a few takes, but at least we got the scene down.”. This is a quote from my team’s final project, which perfectly encapsulates my academic life. Ironically, it was right under my nose when this project seemed like it would not be finished on time. But it applies to life, as well. Whenever you feel like things are not going according to plan, remember that it might “need a few takes.” Without the help of the University and its resources, these projects wouldn’t be possible to complete, alongside the help from professors who guided us.

Counting down until this day felt like a century. And next thing you know, we’re at our graduation exhibition; the Communication and Media program is a top-ranked course in Asia, and today, we graduate!

I would like to thank my parents for supporting me and humbling me when I needed it most, my brother for hearing every complaint in exchange for food, and my closest friends and family for simply being there and cheering me on. I would also like to personally thank mentors and talents who have helped my classmates and me; we appreciate the time and effort you put into helping us.

Finally, to the University, I thank you for everything you have provided me to complete my bachelor’s degree and for this honor. To my fellow graduates, I wish you nothing but success. And to “my dears,” as Professor José Simões says, celebrate the small wins the same way you’d celebrate the big ones. It was a privilege to be your class representative.

As we leave these halls, let’s remember that we are not just graduates but innovators ready to forge our own paths. We have the skills and the determination to make a difference. Let’s use it to shape our world. To the class of 2024, let’s be legen – wait for it – dary!
