USJ Awarded Over a Hundred Outstanding Students at the 2024/25 USJ Community Scholarships and Fellowships Award Ceremony

This year, more than one hundred students were recognized for their exceptional academic achievements. The scholarships were generously donated by 19 local institutions and individual donors, with a total of 175 awards this year, amounting to over MOP 9.3 million.



The University of Saint Joseph (USJ) held the 2024/2025 USJ Community Scholarships and Fellowships Award Ceremony on the afternoon of 14 Nov 2024, at the Auditório Centenário de Fátima in Ilha Verde Campus. More than one hundred students were recognized for their exceptional academic achievements. The scholarships were generously donated by 19 local institutions and individual donors, with a total of 175 awards this year, amounting to over MOP 9.3 million.

Present among the guests of honour were Mr. Li Yongle, representative from the Department of Education and Youth Affairs of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in Macao SAR, the Most Reverend Bishop of Macao Stephen Lee Bun-Sang, Chancellor of USJ, Ms. Tam Sio Wa, Head of the Division of Tertiary Educational Cooperation and Exchange of the Education and Youth Development Bureau of the Macao SAR, Ms. Debby Lei, Representative of Macau Foundation, Ms. Janet Lui, the representative of Mr. Lucas Lo, Founding Fellow of the University of Saint Joseph Court of Benefactors, and Rev. Prof. Stephen Morgan, Rector of USJ, deans, faculty members, and donor representatives.

At the opening speech, Rev. Prof. Stephen Morgan, Rector of USJ emphasized that the award ceremony is not only a moment of celebration but also an important opportunity for students to express their gratitude. He sincerely thanked all the donors and supporting organizations that provided scholarships and fellowships. He highlighted St. Joseph University’s commitment to delivering high-quality education and expressed pride in all the award recipients. The awards serve not only as recognition of their hard work but also as motivation for them to continue striving for excellence in the future.

Lu Xiaoyu, a second-year master’s student in Environmental Science and Management, expressed her gratitude for the scholarship, stating that it affirms her efforts and motivates her ongoing studies. She noted that this encouragement will strengthen her determination to pursue excellence and reach academic heights during her time at USJ.

David Perez Casamayor, a student in the Bachelor of Design program from the Faculty of Arts and Humanities, shared his personal story during his speech, mentioning that everyone experiences moments of confusion or uncertainty in life. He likened the scholarship to a helping hand, reminding everyone that achieving their dreams requires steadfast progress, and expressed heartfelt gratitude for the support from the Rector, professors, and all the donors.

Established in 2005, the USJ Community Scholarships and fellowships aim to inspire students to strive for progress. During the annual award ceremony, donor representatives award to the recipients, recognizing their exceptional academic performances and providing affirmation to outstanding students.
