Prof. José Manuel Simões, Coordinator of the Master of Communication and Media programme at the University of Saint Joseph (USJ), was invited to present a talk featuring one of his latest publication titled “Fostering Dialogue: The Power of Communication” at the InterComm Study Association of The Hague University of Applied Sciences (THUAS) in the Netherlands on the 19th of November.
The talk was preceded by a video presentation entitled “Ethical Values”, recently directed by Prof. José and created by students of USJ’s Communication and Media programme, in which passages from the article “The Eagle Eye” were performed by USJ’s local and international community in their native languages.
During his presentation, Prof. Simões emphasised the vital role of media and journalism in fostering effective communication in today’s interconnected world. He discussed how media messages can contribute to collective motivation and highlighted the transformational power of solution journalism in promoting ethical practices and change within the media field. He also addressed the significance of constructive journalism in creating a community of awareness, ethical solutions, and a robust code of conduct in mass media, ultimately transforming public discourse and fostering a more compassionate society.
The paper features narratives by Prof. José Manuel Simões, complemented by illustrations created by Prof. Filipa Martins from the Faculty of Arts and Humanities of USJ.
