The University of Saint Joseph (USJ) held its annual Career Fair on April 13 and 14 (Tuesday and Wednesday) at Kent Wong Exhibition Gallery in USJ Ilha Verde Campus, with this year’s theme being “Support Innovative Diversity. Welcome Economic Recovery”. More than 60 public and private companies and organisations from different industries, coming from Macao and the Greater Bay Area, joined the event, providing more than 1,300 vacancies and internship opportunities, covering entry, mid or senior-level positions.
The opening ceremony took place at the Auditório Centenário de Fátima at 10 a.m. on April 13, 2021, and was officiated by the Most Reverend Bishop Stephen Lee Bun-sang, Chancellor of USJ; Reverend Prof. Stephen Morgan, Rector of USJ; Mr. Li Yong Le, Assistant of the Education and Youth Affairs Department of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Macao Special Administrative Region; Mr. Chan Iok Wai, Director of the Student Affairs Department of the Education and Youth Development Bureau; Mr. Peng Jin Gang, Deputy Secretary-General of the Youth Federation of Nansha District, Guangzhou; and Mr. Clarence Wong, President-Board of Directors of the Macau Greater Bay Area Human Resources Association. The ceremony was attended by prestigious guests of various companies, along with the Vice-Rectors, Pro-Rector and Deans of USJ.
Over a dozen work seminars were arranged and speakers from different industries shared their entrepreneurial experiences. The two-day programme included job interview preparation workshops, alumni and student “chit-chat” sharing sessions, one-on-one mock interviews and resumé analyses, career talks and youth entrepreneurship innovation panel discussions. Different organisations from the Greater Bay Area were also invited to share their start-up experiences and employment opportunities, with the aim of supporting young graduates to integrate into the development of the region.
The COVID-19 pandemic has hit Macao’s economy hard, with the unemployment rate at the highest levels seen in the past decade, so to foster economic recovery, local industries must innovate and diversify their businesses. The University also hopes that the Career Fair provides students and alumni with more comprehensive employment information through communication and interaction with corporate representatives, speakers, guests, and senior alumni to enhance their employment opportunities.
