USJ Organised 2018 World Social Work Day Activity on 19th May 2018.
For celebrating World Social Work Day 2018, University of Saint Joseph (USJ), sponsored by the Social Welfare Bureau and in collaboration with the Macau Caritas, organised a forum on Healthy Macau, Happy Home: Holistic and Person-Centered Approach in Social Work, on 19 May (Saturday) at the Don Bosco Auditorium of USJ. Approximately 120 participants attended the activity. The participants in this forum are social work educators and students from academic institutions, social workers and social development practitioners who are working in the government and non-government agencies in Macau.
It was honoured to have scholars and professionals from different fields, including social work, psychology, public health, law, and education, sharing their valuable opinions in the forum; including Mr. Paul Pun Chi Meng, Secretary General of CARITAS Macau, Sr. Juliana Devoy, RGS, MSW, Director of Good Shepherd Center Macau, Ms. Jennifer Chau, Director of Fuhong Society of Macau, Prof. Fr. Alejandro Salcedo, O.P., Ph.D., Principal of Saint Paul School Macau, Ms. Ada Lo, CEO of XD Channel Consultant Ltd., Macau, Dr. Tong Ka Io, M.D., MCD, Chief Public Health Physician of Hac Sa Wan Health Center, Atty. Wong Hang Si, Cecilia, Partner and Lawyer of OCT Law Firm, and Prof. Angus Kuok, Ph.D., Assistant Professor and programme coordinator of USJ. Their sharing has helped on laying a foundation that collaborations between social work and other professionals are needed, on providing holistic and person-centered services and support to the service users in Macau. The forum was moderated by Prof. Jenny Lao- Phillips, Ph.D., Assistant Professor and Registrar of USJ.
The opening ceremony was officiated by honourable guests including Mr. Hon Wai, Deputy Director of Social Welfare Bureau, and Father Peter Stilwell, Rector of USJ. A synthesis and call for action were given by Prof. Dominque Tyl, Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences, USJ, as the closing ceremony.
The objectives of this forum are: (1) to promote collaboration between different professions; 2) to describe the possibilities of collaboration for the benefit of stakeholders and the community by having the holistic and person-centered approach as directions.
