The Macau Psychiatric Association organised an annual symposium focused on mental health care in Macau. Professor Jacky Ho, Dean of the Faculty of Health Science, University of Saint Joseph (USJ) was invited as one of the keynote speakers sharing on a topic titled ‘More than we already knew- An in-depth investigation on sleep difficulties among elderly in Macau’. Based on studies conducted, our elderly suffered from chronic insomnia, fragmented sleep, and early awakening, these are aligned with the available literature. Moreover, the current study showed that there could be chronic tolerance behaviour toward sleep difficulties and that elderly might be in tune with that. This presentation urged us to take action to help alleviate a wider epidemic of sleep disorders. The symposium mainly attends by psychiatrist and practitioners in Macau.
