Prof. Jacky Ho, Dean of FHS was invited to present on the topic “Transformation of Macau Social Work Education – the 2nd half time after 45 years” at the first ‘Macau Social Service Development Under New Era – Its Opportunities and Challenges” Symposium on 30 November 2022.
Hosted by the Macau Social Welfare Bureau and the Macau Social Workers Union, the first ‘Macau Social Service Development Under New Era – Its Opportunities and Challenges” Symposium was held in the Macau Fisherman Wharf on 30 November 2022. Director Hon Wai of the Macau Social Welfare Bureau, Director Sun Zhi Jun of the Social Work Department of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Macao SAR, President Leong Wai Fong of the Macau Social Workers Union, Chairman Pun Chi Meng of the Macau Social Workers Professional Committee and other guests held the opening ceremony. Speakers from universities and the professional industry were invited. Professor Jacky Ho, Dean of Faculty of Health Sciences was invited to present on the topic “Transformation of Macau Social Work Education – the 2nd half time after 45 years”. His presentation reflected on the development of social work education from the beginning, and how it could position itself under the impacts of globalization and the development of future social needs of Macau and the Greater Bay Area. He also shared his view on the drafting of the professional examination that is underway and urged that it should accommodate the development characteristics of social work education in Macau, and how local universities and social workers should be the main driving force to this endeavor that help to bring the next phase of professional development.
The Faculty of Health Sciences will continue to work with different stakeholders, to further develop social work education through academic programs and research, and to co-build a healthy living community for Macau and the Greater Bay Area.
