The Institute of Science and Environment (ISE), together with students and staff from the University of Saint Joseph (USJ) and other local universities, joined hands to plant mangroves along the Taipa coastline on the morning of March 19, 2023.
The mangrove planting activity is an annual effort organized by the Municipal Affairs Bureau (IAM) and regularly participated by ISE with the coordination of Prof. Karen Tagulao. It aims at promoting the value of mangroves and raising environmental awareness in the local community.
This year, participants came together to plant around 800 seedlings of Kandelia obovata and Aegiceras corniculatum.
The activity is aligned with USJ’s initiative in addressing the following United Nations (UN) Sustainable Development Goals: SDG 11: Sustainable cities and communities; SDG 13:Climate Action; SDG 14- Life Below Water; SDG 15:Life on Land.
“We are proud to be a constant part of this important initiative for our precious ecosystems!” – The team at ISE/USJ
