USJ Qualitative Research Team Provides Training on Qualitative Data Analysis for SKH

USJ Research Team provides “Part Two Training on Qualitative Data Analysis” for Sheng Kung Hui (SKH) staff.
Under a collaborative agreement signed between the Faculty of Health Sciences (FHS) at the University of Saint Joseph (USJ) and the Sheng Kung Hui (SKH), and followed by the success of the project’s first phase on “Part One of Training on Basic of Qualitative Research”, Dr Edward Kwan, Assistant Professor of the Department of Psychology and the Department’s Qualitative Research Training Team, offered the second stage of consultancy service to the SKH by providing the “Part Two Training on Qualitative Data Analysis” on Saturday, 23rd of September, 2o23, at the Don Bosco Auditorium at USJ.
The USJ training team, led by Dr Kwan, consisted of PhD and Master of Counselling and Psychotherapy (MCP) students who also use qualitative approaches in their own research. The training aimed to enhance the SKH research team’s skills in coding and conducting thematic analysis with qualitative data. It also covered the effective use of software in managing qualitative data.
The Training was well attended by SKH staff who are conducting qualitative research to explore the experiences of family members of problem gamblers in Macao. USJ students of the bachelor’s in psychology (BPY) and MCP programmes were also invited to attend, it was an interactive experience for all participants as students who attended online had actively exchanged with the training team on site.
Feedback from SKH staff indicated that they found the training very useful in understanding and applying coding and thematic analysis skills to ongoing research with service users’ family members.
