Celebrations of the 25th Anniversary of the Establishment of the Macao SAR & Parade for Celebration of the Year of the Dragon

17

Feb

This year, the second float parade on the 8th day of Chinese New Year (17 February) will set off from our USJ Ilha Verde Campus at 8:00 p.m. to its final destination in Iao Hon Market Garden!

With a profound symbolism, the dragon is considered as sacred, auspicious and prosperity in Chinese folklore. The dragon is a token of courage, dignity and power, and represents good fortune and well-being. The dragon is associated with strong ambition and in Chinese mythology, the dragon has the magical power to control the wind, clouds, rain and weather.

2024 marks the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China (diamond jubilee) and the 25th anniversary of Macao’s return to the motherland (silver jubilee), which also coincides with the year of the dragon, combined into a rare and auspicious year with three celebrations. On the third day of the first lunar month of the year of the dragon, everyone celebrates the return and reunion of the dragons. The dazzling wood dragon and all other dragons assemble in Macao and form a horde of dragons that resembles the Great Wall, blessing the “Descendants of the Dragon”. Under the guard of dragons, Macao will prosper in the new era and a new journey under the leadership of the motherland, with all the industries booming and achieving success.
