The University of Saint Joseph and Colégio Mateus Ricci signed a MOU aiming to harness their collective expertise and resources to make meaningful strides in environmental protection.

The University of St. Joseph (USJ) has teamed up with Colégio Mateus Ricci to address pressing environmental issues, marking a significant step towards sustainability. The collaboration kicked off with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the two institutions, signalling their joint commitment to environmental programs and initiatives.

Representing USJ, Prof. David Gonçalves, Dean of the Institute of Science and Environment (ISE), and Principal of Colégio Mateus Ricci Ms. Irene Cheung, participated in the MOU signing ceremony at the Colégio Mateus Ricci campus on February 3. The ceremony, which coincided with the school’s celebratory opening program for School Day, highlights the shared commitment of both institutions to environmental stewardship. Dr. Teresa Loong, Vice-Rector for Student Affairs of USJ, was also present to witness the signing. Other ISE faculty members, including Professors Karen Tagulao, Thomas Lei, and Alex Lebel also attended the event. The delegation from USJ was warmly welcomed by Colégio Mateus Ricci’s dedicated members including Chaplain Fr. Paul Chan, SJ, Vice-principals Mr. Alex Leong and Ms. Bonnie Wu, and Ms. Joyce Hoi.

The event was further enriched by captivating performances of the Colégio Mateus Ricci students, which centered around raising awareness about environmental issues. These performances served as a reminder of the importance of nurturing environmental consciousness among the younger generation.

Following the signing ceremony, attendees were invited to the opening of the Plastic Pollution and Mangroves Biodiversity Exhibition, organised and curated by Prof. Karen Tagulao. The exhibition, the first of many collaborative initiatives, aims to shed light on critical environmental challenges facing our communities.

Through this partnership, USJ and Colégio Mateus Ricci aim to harness their collective expertise and resources to make meaningful strides in environmental protection.
