Asian Institute of Technology Thailand Visits USJ and Signs MOU, Forging New Opportunities

A delegation led by the Asian Institute of Technology President, Prof. Kazuo Yamamoto, visited the USJ Ilha Verde Campus to formally ink the partnership between AIT and USJ.
On Thursday, 14th March, 2024, the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) of Bangkok, Thailand, visited the University of Saint Joseph’s (USJ) Ilha Verde campus grounds. The delegation comprising President Kazuo Yamamoto, Mr. Shawn P. Kelly, Executive Director at the Office of International and Public Affairs, Dr. Chaklam Silpasuwanchai, Assistant Professor of Computer Science and Information Management and Ms. Danielle Duan, Head of Emerging Markets International Cooperation, was warmly received by Prof. Keith Morrison, USJ’S Vice-Rector for Research, Prof. David Gonçalves, Dean of the Institute of Science and Environment (ISE), Prof. Alexandre Lobo, Head of the Department of Business Administration and Head of the Laboratory of Applied Neurosciences (LAN), and Prof. Karen Tagulao, Programme Coordinator for the Master of Environmental Sciences and Management and Chair of the USJ Green Committee.
During the visit, a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was signed between the AIT’s President Kazuo Yamamoto and USJ’s Vice-Rector Prof. Keith Morrison, under the witness of Mr. Carlos Roberto Xavier, Head of Department of Tertiary Education at the Macau S.A.R. Education and Youth Development Bureau (DSEDJ).
Vice-rector Morrison expressed that USJ and AIT shared common interests and international perspectives. He emphasised the common ground in various areas, including science, technology, business, and social responsibility, highlighting also the diverse composition of their respective communities, acknowledging the international presence of both.
Communications on collaborations in the areas of science, environment and data analytics were in talks since Prof. Álvaro Barbosa, Vice-rector for Internationalisation and Academic Affairs visited and discussed with the institutions’ faculty members on mutual areas of interests and framework for long-term collaborations. Vice-rector for Student Affairs, Dr. Teresa Loong, also joined the DSEDJ delegation last year in visiting AIT.
On this occasion, the AIT delegation also received a tour of the USJ Green Campus facilities, as well as the Institute of Science and Environment labs and facilities on the NAPE campus.
The newly solidified partnership between AIT and USJ is a pivoting step towards propelling academic and research cooperation, and an indication of USJ’s continued efforts in internationalisation and exchange with its partner institutions in Thailand. Both AIT and USJ are also dedicated to the achievement of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and look forward to forging fruitful opportunities.
