USJ Macao welcomed a delegation from the Hong Kong Vocational Training Council (VTC) and shared its experiences and best practices in addressing the special needs of students from Mainland China other regions.
The University of Saint Joseph (USJ) warmly welcomed a delegation from the Vocational Training Council (VTC) Hong Kong on the 15th March, 2024. The VTC delegation, led by Principal Lecturer of the Student Special Support Office Ms. Angela Wai, comprised 12 members seeking to learn about USJ’s experiences and practices in addressing the special needs of students from Mainland China and beyond.
Upon arrival, the VTC delegation was greeted by Prof. Jacky Ho, Dean of Health Sciences, and Prof. Vitor, Head of the Department of Psychology, alongside Dr. Edward Kwan, Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychology. The presentation of USJ’s background and current activities provided the basis for insightful discussions aimed at mutual learning and sharing of expertise on issues related to the admission of mainland Chinese students, support for students with special educational needs and psychological services in Macao.
Throughout the visit, the delegation engaged in discussion and exchanges with USJ senior staff members including Mr. Tiago Monteiro, Head of Technology and Facilities Office (TFO), and Ms Jenny Lam, Head of the Office for Student and Alumni Affairs (OSAA). On matters related to psychological services for students, Ms Helen Lao, Student Counselor of USJ, shared her invaluable insights gleaned from her clinical experiences in supporting students with diverse needs.
During a guided tour of the USJ Residence Hall, the VTC delegation gained firsthand exposure to the university’s accommodations and facilities designed to cater to students’ varying requirements.
USJ remains steadfast in its commitment to fostering partnerships and knowledge exchange to enhance support for students with diverse needs. The visit from the VTC delegation underscores the importance of collaboration between educational institutions in promoting inclusivity and student welfare in the Greater Bay Areas and beyond.
