Experiential Learning: USJ Students Onboard on the “MV Xue Long 2” in Hong Kong

USJ recently organised a group of students to visit the “MV Xue Long 2” in Hong Kong as part of an initiative to broaden their knowledge of polar ecology and environmental conservation.
Recently, China’s first domestically built icebreaking research vessel, “MV Xue Long 2,” made its way in Hong Kong and docked at the Ocean Terminal in Tsim Sha Tsui. To enhance the understanding of polar ecology and environmental conservation among young students, the University of Saint Joseph (USJ) organised a group of students to visit the vessel through a local organisation in Macao. The visit was coordinated by the Education and Youth Development Bureau (DSEDJ) and sponsored by the Bank of China Macau Branch.
One of our participating students, Chen Qijie (PhD in Business Administration), expressed sincere gratitude to the Green Environment Protection Association of Macau and the USJ Office for Student and Alumni Affairs for providing the opportunity to witness firsthand the technological charm and advanced techniques of China’s first domestically built polar research vessel, “MV Xue Long 2.” He also believes that young people should continue to pursue knowledge, overcome challenges, and contribute to the country’s scientific research endeavors as polar exploration work progresses.
Zhu Junwen, a student from the Master of Business Administration programme, believes that through this experience, students were able to gain a deeper understanding of the overall structure and navigation principles of “MV Xue Long 2,”; additionally, they could attain the patriotic, pragmatic, innovative, and persevering spirit of the polar expedition team.
