This talk presents the most important developmental dimensions of the children’s time use: the activities (what they do); the social context (with whom they are with) and the places (where they are). Special attention will be given to the dimensions that are most strongly associated with school performance: family time, study, extra-curricular activities, sleeping and socializing. Issues such as Internet use, social networks, computer games and physical activity will be addressed. The main goals of the talk are to share the most recent scientific findings in the areas of children’s time use and best parenting and teaching practices.

ABOUT THE SPEAKER

Vitor Teixeira completed his doctoral studies in Psychology, at the University of Oporto, with a thesis on children’s time use. His research interests and publications are in the areas of child development and parenting practices. He is a Visiting Professor at University of Oporto where he teaches General Psychology and Communication Skills. He is a clinical child psychologist at O Fio de Ariana, a private clinic in Portugal.  Vitor is an effective member of the International Association for Time Use Research (IATUR), regularly participating in courses and scientific meetings organized by this association.
