BBA Students host "Mainland Youth in Sino-Lusophone Bilingual Talent Development Exchange" at IPIM

A delegation of more than 40 students and teachers from Guangdong Polytechnic of Science and Technology was received by the Coordinator for Executive Training Programmes of FBL-USJ, Mr Emil Marques, and the second year Portuguese-speaking students of the Bachelor of Business Administration.



On 14th May 2024, the “China – Portuguese Speaking Countries Economic and Trade Cooperation and Talent Information Network University Recommendation and Talent Exchange Meeting”, organised by Macau Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macau International Information Technology Company Limited and Macau/Hengqin Cross Border Speak Network Technology Company Limited, was successfully held in the China-Portuguese Speaking Countries Business and Trade Co-operation Platform Complex with the support of Macao Trade and Investment Promotion Institute (IPIM) and the Faculty of Business and Law (FBL) of the University of Saint Joseph (USJ). A delegation of more than 40 students and teachers from Guangdong Polytechnic of Science and Technology was received by the Coordinator for Executive Training Programmes and Project Development of the FBL-USJ, Mr Emil Marques, and the second year Portuguese-speaking students of the Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA).

The delegation was led by Associate Professor Liu Taiwei, Director of Applied Foreign Language Programme Coordinator (Portuguese Specialization) of the Guangdong Polytechnic of Science and Technology, and Mr. Luo Xing, Deputy CEO of YGA (Macau) International Information Technology Company Ltd., to gain a deeper understanding of the operation of the “Economic & Trade Co-operation and Human Resources Portal between China and Portuguese-Speaking Countries, In addition, Mr Tang Wing Hei, Senior Manager of the Department of Economic and Trade Promotion for the Portuguese-speaking Markets of the Macao Trade and Investment Promotion Institute (IPIM), explained the role and advantages of Macao as a platform between China and the Portuguese-speaking countries, as well as its role and advantages in the development of economic and trade co-operation.

After the information sessions and tour of the pavilion, Portuguese-speaking countries students from USJ and Mainland Chinese students were divided into mixed groups for thematic exchange which included: 1) Sino-Portuguese economic and commercial co-operation; 2) Sino-Portuguese investment co-operation; 3) Sino-Portuguese business environment and opportunities; 4) Sino-Portuguese employment opportunities; 5) Sino-Portuguese business service platform; and 6) Product market opportunities between China and Portuguese-speaking countries. Afterwards, each group shared their insights in Portuguese as a team and reported to the whole group. The programme gave students the opportunity to immerse themselves in the Portuguese language, demonstrate their Portuguese language skills, and build strong friendships through group work.

Under the premise of “one country, two systems”, Macao enjoys international trade and cultural exchanges with more than 120 countries, and USJ is committed to promoting the exchange of knowledge between Chinese and Western cultures and cross-cultural understanding, and providing a platform for students from all over the world to interact with each other. In addition, USJ, as an educational pillar of the strong patriotic community in, and of, Macao, China, continues to contribute to the objectives of the service platform to the Portuguese-Speaking Countries, with a focus on education and capacity building in the area of “Sino-Portuguese Bilingual Talent Development”.
