Preliminary Test Screening of USJ's documentary "YAGI" held at Tokyo Tech

The film, produced by the University of Saint Joseph (USJ), profiles acclaimed architect Koji Yagi who designed the USJ Ilha Verde campus together with his students.



A preliminary test screening of the documentary film “YAGI” was held on the 8th of July, at the Tokyo Institute of Technology for a selected audience. The film, produced by the University of Saint Joseph (USJ), profiles acclaimed architect Koji Yagi who designed the USJ Ilha Verde campus together with his students.

The screening was attended by architect Koji Yagi, the film’s executive producer Prof. Álvaro Barbosa, director João Brochado, producer and composer Thomas Daniell, and various other participants. This marked the first time the film was showed to the participants and was followed by a brief discussion. The film received a very positive reaction from those in attendance.

The public premiere of the documentary will be in Tokyo this coming November.


Film Synopsis:

Twenty years ago a group of architecture students in Tokyo designed a new university campus under the mentorship of architect Koji Yagi, for the students of the former Portuguese concession in China – Macao.

Yagi traveled back to Macao to see how his work came to life while in Tokyo his former students reunited to celebrate his achievements. This documentary explores the idea of intercultural engagement in Universities and the importance of architect Yagi in promoting a platform for intellectual and multicultural human development.
