The book launch of ‘Macao Philanthropist – Comendador Joel José Choi Anok’ was held on the 22nd August to commemorate the 79th anniversary of the death of Comendador Joel José Choi Anok and the 79th anniversary of the victory of the Anti-Japanese War.
The book launch of ‘Macao Philanthropist – Comendador Joel José Choi Anok’ was held on the 22nd August to commemorate the 79th anniversary of the death of Comendador Joel José Choi Anok and the 79th anniversary of the victory of the Anti-Japanese War. The publishers hope to use this book to encourage future generations to actively cultivate the feelings of ‘country’ and ‘home’, and to tell the story of Macao through local legend to enhance the cultural communication power of Macao.
The event was held at the Ho Yin Memorial Hall at the Macao Chamber of Commerce Building and invited the leaders and representatives of several societies attended.
The book was published by Global Publishing House. The publishers and authors, President of Global News Dr. Qiu Yuejin, Comendador Choi’s great-granddaughter and President of the Macau Association for Community Care Children Ms. Rosalina Anok Novo, and Director of the Macao Observatory for Social Development (MOSD) of the University of Saint Joseph (USJ) Prof. Jacky Ho, delivered speeches respectively. They said that this year coincides with the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China and the 25th anniversary of Macao SAR. Also, in commemoration of the 79th anniversary of the death of Comendador Joel José Choi Anok and the 79th anniversary of the victory of the Anti-Japanese War. With the joint efforts of the editorial board and the two authors, the new book took two years to be published. They would like to enhance the cultural communication power of Macao.
The book records the ten most representative stories of Comendador Joel José Choi Anok’s charity and relief services for the Chinese in Macao during the Anti-Japanese War, commemorating his contribution to Macao. In order to review and pay tribute to his life of good deeds, it hopes to use his story of good deeds to encourage more people to give back to society with love, contribute to society, and help more people in need.
