USJ held its 2024 Orientation Day on the 29 August, welcoming new students to embark on a new chapter on campus.

To facilitate the integration of new students into campus life and enhance mutual interaction and communication, the University of Saint Joseph (USJ) organized the USJ Orientation Day on August 29. The event included introductions to campus facilities and services, green environmental lectures, dialogues with faculty members, and campus tours, attracting over 80 participants to join in the lively atmosphere.

The event commenced at 11 a.m. at the Auditório Centenário de Fátima in the Ilha Verde campus. Rev’d. Professor Stephen Morgan, Rector of USJ, delivered the welcoming remarks to the new students of the Academic Year 24/25, introducing the university’s history and its diverse, international academic environment. He encouraged the new students to maintain rigour, critical thinking, and creativity throughout their studies, emphasizing the importance of communication and engagement with others.

The Orientation Day of this academic year was divided into morning and afternoon sessions. In the morning session, our staff introduced students to campus facilities and environment, student support services, student associations and clubs. Alongside the ice-breaking games and team-building activities, Professor Karen Tagulao, Programme Coordinator for the Master of Environmental Sciences and Management, and Chair-person of the USJ Green Committee, delivered a presentation on “Green Campus,” sharing environmental information with participants and encouraging students to engage actively in environmental initiatives.

The afternoon session featured a guided campus tour. The freshmen were led around the campus to familiarize themselves with the buildings. The aim was to help them become acquainted with the campus environment and essential facilities. The students closely observed campus environmental equipment during the tour and engaged in group discussions afterwards. Through interaction, they shared their perspectives on environmental conservation and discussed practical ways to promote environmental protection in daily life, enhancing their awareness and understanding of environmental issues.

The event concluded with the Faculty Session, led by professors and faculty members from each academic unit. The Orientation Day featured a special performance by the local Macau band “SCAMPER” and students from the USJ Music Club, spreading positive energy through music to energize fellow students for the new academic year. The orientation for Master’s students attending evening classes will take place in the evening on 4 September 2024.
