Public Lecture | "Kenosis and Krisis. Christianity’s Inculturation into Modernity (Vatican Council II, Gaudium et spes)"

15

Oct

The Public Lecture “Kenosis and Krisis. Christianity’s Inculturation into Modernity (Vatican Council II, Gaudium et spes)” by Prof. Dr. Ingeborg Gabriel, organised by the Faculty of Religious Studies and Philosophy, will take place on October 15 in the Conference Room at Seminary Campus.

About the Talk:

The Pastoral Constitution Gaudium et spes of Vatican II is based on the biblical notion of God being a God active in history. This asks for faith to be inculturated into different cultures, which are cenotically affirmed but also subjected to a crisis in Christian discernment. This process has taken varying forms in history, Gaudium et spes placing particular emphasis on the modern world, its attitudes and institutions. By discerning the “signs of the time” the Church is to understand the contemporary social and political realities and evaluate them by trying to discern God’s plan for humanity in this age.
