Minzu University of China visits USJ Macao for student and cultural exchange

The visit highlighted both institutions’ commitments to enhancing educational ties and promoting international collaboration.
On September 11, a delegation from Minzu University of China (MUC), led by Ms. Mani Fok, Executive Director of the Association for the Promotion of Chinese Ethnic Unity, and Mr. Owen Shi, Director of the Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan Affairs Office, visited the University of Saint Joseph (USJ) to engage in student and institutional exchanges. The delegation was warmly welcomed by USJ’s Rector, Rev’d Prof. Stephen Morgan, and Vice-Rector for Research and Innovation, Prof. Alexandre Lobo, in the Ilha Verde Campus.
It has been a tradition of USJ to welcome students and staff from the Minzu Universities from China since 2017. We hope to continue this tradition and invite continual collaboration in student exchange and explore more in-depth exchanges in the future.
This visit continues a tradition established in 2017, wherein USJ has welcomed students and staff from Minzu University, fostering a spirit of collaboration and cultural exchange. Prof. Stephen Morgan highlighted the significance of interpersonal interactions, stating, “Through person-to-person, student-to-student interaction, such as today’s event, we gain mutual respect and understanding between cultures and people.”
Ms. Mani Fok expressed the association’s eagerness to promote further exchanges between mainland ethnic universities and USJ, reinforcing the commitment to enhancing educational ties.
USJ is home to a vibrant community of students and staff from over 40 countries, serving as a dynamic meeting place for international collaboration. The university offers pathways to and from Europe, South America, and Africa, leveraging its heritage and connections with Portugal along the Belt and Road initiative. USJ operates under the designation of “One Center, One Platform, and One Base,” positioning itself as a global center for tourism and leisure, a trade cooperation platform for China and Portuguese-speaking countries, and a base for cultural exchange.
Prof. Owen Shi underscored MUC’s commitment to internationalization and extended an invitation to USJ students to visit Minzu University.
During the visit, students from MUC’s dancing school, alongside local and international students, enjoyed a communal lunch, fostering intercultural dialogue. The day culminated in a tour of the university, featuring an interactive performance exchange that included a demonstration of Brazilian capoeira, enriching the cultural experience for all participants.
The MUC delegation also included Ms. Yang Aidi, Coordinator of the Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan Affairs Office; Mr. Kim Yong-sang, Dancing School Teacher at MUC; Ms. Ivone Ma, Director of the Association for the Promotion of Chinese Ethnic Unity; and Ms. Rainbow Yau.
