The Doctoral Talks on Campus: “Architecture of New Molecules: A PhD Adventure” will take place on 29 October in the USJ Senate Room.
ABOUT DOCTORAL TALKS ON CAMPUS:
Fostering transdisciplinary perspectives in thought, research and development in the doctoral and post-doctoral programmes of the University of Saint Joseph in Macao.
ABOUT THE TALK:
This seminar is about a dynamic vision of chemical and biochemical phenomena from the world of contemporary chemistry and biochemistry, the main features of which are structure, function, and reactivity. It deals with concepts concerning the various ways it is possible to visualize the molecular structure of the substances that make up our universe. It looks at molecular synthesis as if it were dealing with molecular architecture. That is how things are, given that the whole world is composed of small molecular fragments which connect to each other in more or less complex ways until they achieve the target molecule. The elements behind all this molecular scenery provide us with a better understanding of the historical and philosophical vision of scientific areas such as chemistry, biochemistry and medicine.
Keywords: chemical, biochemical, phenomena,molecular, structure.
ABOUT THE SPEAKER:
Maria Burguete is a scientist at the Institute Bento da Rocha Cabral in Portugal. She received her PhD in History of Science from the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich in 2000. She is a scientist and a university lecturer with teaching and research experience in multidisciplinary areas, such as chemical engineering/chemistry, biochemistry/history, and philosophy of science. She has published nine scientific books and over 30 scientific papers, mainly in the history and philosophy of science. The Scimat Program started in 2007, and the International Science Matters conferences were organised until October 2019. Since 2010, she has been a corresponding member of the European Academy of Sciences, Arts & Letters, founded in Paris in 1980. Recently, she created the first Science Matters Center in the world (Associação Scimat-Portugal/ A Non-Profit Cultural Association) based in Rocha Cabral Institute, Lisbon.
