Dr Edward Kwan of the Department of Psychology, Faculty of Health Sciences USJ, attended and presented at the 9th Asia Academy of Family Therapy (AAFT) Annual Conference in Shanghai during 25th to 27th October 2024.
In line with the strategic goal of the University of Saint Joseph (USJ), and with the support of the Department of Psychology of the Faculty of Health Sciences, Dr Edward Kwan attended and presented at the 9th Asia Academy of Family Therapy (AAFT) Annual Conference in Shanghai during 25th to 27th October 2024. The title of the conference is Rethinking “Mental Health” in the context of Radically Changing Familiar and Social Norms. The event is hosted by the National Medical Center for Mental Disorders, the Shanghai Mental Health Center, and the Mental Health Center of Tongji University, China, and co-hosted by the AAFT.
Professionals from Asia, Australia, UK and USA joined together to discuss latest developments in marriage and family therapy, focusing on mental health issues affecting children and adolescents. Keynote speakers included Wai-Yung Lee from Hong Kong, Takeshi Tamura from Japan, and Xudong Zhao from China, Froma Walsh from the USA, and Maurizio Andolfi from Italy. The Conference was attended by over 900 participants from different provinces of China and overseas.
Dr Edward Kwan shared research findings from Hong Kong and Macau, and presented his model with Chinese characteristics of Multiple Self Multiple Impact (MSMI) on how problem gambling affected family members, and how family relationships determine perceptions of impacts and harms.
