On 31 October, USJ’s Domingos Lam Centre for Research in Education (DLCRE) hosted a public lecture titled “Introducing Corpus Linguistics to Future Educators”. This lecture, which attracted over 30 educators, is part of the “USJ Career Training Series” and was funded by the Macau Foundation to enhance the career development of students from various professions.
Moderated by Prof. Miranda Mak, Assistant Professor of the School of Education and coordinator of DLCRE, the lecture featured Dr. Shirley N. Dita, Associate Professor and Chair at the Department of English and Applied Linguistics at the De La Salle University in the Philippines.
The lecture provided an overview of corpus linguistics and its practical applications in a data-driven language teaching and learning model. It also highlighted the benefits of incorporating corpus linguistics into language education, including the encouragement of language discovery, critical thinking, and learner-centred activities.
