The USJ Green Club proudly participated in the Sands Cares Hygiene Kit Build with Clean the World event held at The Venetian Macao’s Cotai Expo on 24 October 2024.



The USJ Green Club proudly participated in the Sands Cares Hygiene Kit Build with Clean the World event held at The Venetian Macao’s Cotai Expo on 24 October 2024. The event saw over 350 volunteers from Sands China and community partners come together to assemble more than 30,000 hygiene kits in one day. Each kit includes soap, shampoo, conditioner, bath gel, a toothbrush, toothpaste, and an encouraging message from Sands China and Clean the World. The University of Saint Joseph’s (USJ) participation, alongside community partners such as Macau ECOnsious Association, Green Future, and the Bosco Youth Service Network, highlights the university’s dedication to promoting sustainability and contributing to global well-being. 

USJ’s Commitment to Sustainability and Student Engagement

Representing USJ at the event was Professor Karen Tagulao, Chair of the USJ Green Committee and professor at USJ’s Institute of Science and Environment, along with members of the USJ Green Club. Other officiating guests in the opening ceremony include Dr. Wilfred Wong, President of Sands China Ltd.; Gyneth Tan, Managing Director of Clean the World Asia; Sr. Nelia M. Tubana, representative of Macau ECOnsious Association; Sylvia Wong, Director of Green Future; and Chan Lai Wan, Store Manager of Bosco Green Store of Bosco Youth Service Network. Commenting on USJ’s participation, Professor Tagulao stated, “The University of Saint Joseph, along with our Green Club, is deeply honored to be involved in this impactful initiative. Collaborating with Sands China and other community organisations allows us to contribute meaningfully to global hygiene efforts while promoting sustainability practices. This event is an excellent opportunity for our students to engage with real-world environmental solutions.”

Looking Ahead: Continuing Commitment to Sustainability

This collaboration is part of USJ’s broader efforts to advance sustainability and environmental awareness in Macao. USJ continues to champion innovative solutions to environmental challenges and shapes sustainable future through its Institute of Science and Environment and student-led initiatives like the Green Club. Dr. Wilfred Wong, Executive Vice Chairman of Sands China Ltd., expressed his gratitude to all partners and volunteers. He stated, “We are proud to work with Clean the World and our community partners for over a decade now. These hygiene kits make a tangible difference in the lives of vulnerable communities, and we are thankful for the ongoing collaboration that helps us recycle resources and practice sustainability.” With more than 30,000 hygiene kits assembled in one day, bringing the total number of kits created by Sands China and its partners to over 385,000 since 2014. This year’s build represents a significant contribution to global health and sustainability efforts.
