The University of Saint Joseph (USJ) delegation visited Hong Kong on the 16th and 17th December. During their time in Hong Kong, they visited the Hong Kong Metropolitan University, Caritas Kowloon Community Hall, and explored local landmarks to gain insights into the city’s situation and foster positive values of mutual respect and inclusivity among students.
The delegation departed at 8 a.m. on the 16th. Coordinated by the Office for Student and Alumni Affairs (OSAA) at USJ, the group first visited the Hong Kong Palace Museum located at the West Kowloon Cultural District to understand the changes and historical overview of mainland China. After that , they visited the Caritas Social Centre Kowloon Community Hall and were warmly received by Dr. Bill Lay, Senior Social Work Supervisor, Ms. Celine Chan, Senior Social Work Supervisor, and Ms. Shirley Wong, Team Leader of Youth and Community Service at Caritas Community Centre – Kowloon. The group visited the community center lobby, library, and facilities. They also participated in a sharing session where they gained insights into Caritas’ milestones in serving ethnic minorities, community education, and related service goals in an interactive manner, enhancing the understanding of our university students regarding ethnic minorities in Hong Kong and the challenges they face.
On the following day, the group visited the Hong Kong Metropolitan University (HKMU), where they were warmly welcomed by representatives from the university including Mr. Cannon Fung, Assistant Director of Students Affairs, and Ms. Michelle Ma, Assistant Student Affairs Manager of the Student Affairs Office. The activities began with the student representatives introducing the university’s history, motto, and campus activities, followed by a tour of the main campus and the Jockey Club Institute of Health Sciences, where they visited the gymnasium, multi-functional training rooms, and virtual sports learning labs. During the student sharing session, the exchange team further understood the university’s service-learning programmes, where students apply their knowledge to practical projects that serve the community, enabling them to gain a deeper understanding of their professional knowledge and engage in self-reflection.
The trip concluded with a visit to the Hong Kong Science Museum, where students and faculty members viewed the “Glorious Voyage Splendid Achievements of the People’s Republic of China in Its 75 Years” exhibition, aimed at deepening their understanding of Chinese culture. The exhibition showcased China’s comprehensive development over the past 75 years, highlighting its outstanding achievements in the fields of science and technology. The delegation returned to Macau on the afternoon of the 17th, marking the successful completion of the trip, with gratitude extended once again to the Education and Youth Development Bureau for their support.
