The research team of the Chinese Literacy Education And Research (CLEAR) Project, housed in the Bishop Domingos Lam Centre for Research in Education (DLCRE), attended the 28th International Conference on Yue Dialects held at the Hong Kong Metropolitan University from 13-14 December, 2024.

Professor Cheng Pui-wan, Honorary Advisor of the CLEAR Project, presented a paper entitled “Early Chinese Literacy Education in a Multilingual Environment: Curriculum Design and Development” and engaged in meaningful exchanges with the participants. Professor Cheng pointed out that in a multilingual environment, the learning process will be greatly facilitated if children are taught to be aware of the phonetic, morphological and orthographic features of the language and its writing system.

The non-profit CLEAR project supports early childhood Chinese literacy development. Since 2016, CLEAR has extensive experience in serving schools in Macao and has published a range of educational resources.
