Lifelong Learning
The Psychological Trauma Training is organized by the Macau Society of Registered Psychotherapists and the University of Saint Joseph, co-organized by the Macao Neuromedical Society and the Macau Medical and Health Federation, sponsored by the Henry Fok Foundation. A series of training will be launched in August 2023, targeting participants who are working as clinical psychologists, frontline workers, counselors and social workers, to learn about theory and practical application regarding psychological trauma and its latest development.

📌 The D.S.E.D.J. 2020-2023 Continuing Education Development Subsidy Scheme and the Lifelong Learning Public Programme Tuition Fee Discount Policy (LLO-529) are NOT available for this training.
Remark [1]: Tuition fee discount for members are only available for those who have successfully applied to the MSRP and MUSW members and whose become of the above-mentioned organizations while applying for the training. Lifelong Learning Office shall also check with the memberships information from the mentioned organizations, in the event of there is no relevant membership information can be found, registrant(s) may need to settle the payment by non-members’ tuition fee. Biography of Speaker::
Dr. Robert Grant
Graduated from Duquesne University with a PhD and MA in Psychology. Dr. Robert Grant is an internationally renowned clinical psychologist in the field of complex trauma. He works on trauma, spirituality and cross-cultural issues in the United States and other countries. He serves as a consultant and trainer for organizations in various fields such as occupational, religion, medical, psychological, military, law enforcement, relief, church agencies, etc. Dr. Robert Grant has been teaching since 1980 and has 30 years of rich teaching experience. He has published ten books since 1986.

Psychological Trauma Training — Historical Summary of How Trauma has been Conceptualized and How to Assess Contemporary Victims of Trauma and Abuse
Objective and Introduction
Objective: To introduce psychological trauma theory to clinical practitioners and frontline counselors, to help participants learn to conceptualize practical assessment, and to combine theoretical and practical application learning.
Introduction: A historical summary of trauma conceptualization, describing the various types of trauma. Introduce how to assess victims of trauma and abuse, including behavioral, physical, psychiatric, cognitive and other aspects.

Objective and Introduction
Objective: To introduce the deep implications of psychological trauma to clinical practitioners and frontline counselors, to help participants better understand the problems and solutions that need to be addressed, and to combine theoretical and practical application learning.
Introduction: Describe the deep impact of trauma and introduce dissociative disorders. Explain what transference and countertransference are, their types, problems and solutions that need to be addressed, and how to understand and deal with the patient’s original psychological state.

Objective: To enable clinical practitioners and frontline counselors to understand how to conduct group counseling for people with psychological trauma, and to combine theoretical and practical application learning.
Introduction: Introduce the various types of groups, the benefits and drawbacks of trauma group counseling, how to screen group members and how to establish group rules, etc.

HOW TO APPLY
A three-step flow of “Registration, Notification, Enrolment” applies. Applicants should first register through the following methods during the application period of each series of training programmes. After receiving the registration information, our office will contact the applicants individually through SMS and email.

All clinical psychologists, frontline workers, counselors and social workers who are interested in this series of training are welcome to complete the online registration form or contact Lifelong Learning Office of University of Saint Joseph to complete the registration:

About Course Enrolment
- The training accepts online registration on a first-come-first-served basis. Registrants will be placed on the waiting list once the number of training applicants reaches the maximum capacity, Lifelong Learning Office will contact the registrants sequentially from the backup list for further application arrangements;
- Members from MSRP and MUSW could enjoy the early admission in this training;
- The organizer reserves the right to decide whether to admit individual applicants;
- Registration will be considered invalid if the enrolment is not performed during the required period; Registrants from the backup list will be notified by SMS sequentially;
- Programme may be cancelled due to insufficient registration.
⮩ Notification
- Accepted registrants will be notified by SMS and E-mail about any further arrangements including programme enrolment and payment settlement, etc.
⮩ Enrolment
- Notified registrants must visit the Lifelong Learning Office in person during the application period mentioned in the SMS and Email, to complete an application form with the presentation of a valid Macao Resident ID Card / others valid identify documents to complete its procedures (in case of the enrolment procedure needs to be done by the third-person, both the participant and authorized representative must bring the valid identify documents to complete its process);
- The D.S.E.D.J. 2020-2023 Continuing Education Development Subsidy Scheme is NOT available for this course, therefore, registrants are required to complete the payment settlement in person; Only cash payment is accepted for amounts below MOP 500; Bank Transfer, Credit Card (VISA/MASTER CARD), UnionPay Card or Cheque payment accepted for amounts above MOP1,000; Cash payment for amounts above MOP1,000 and in currencies other than Macau Patacas is not accepted;
Withdrawal
- Registrants of Programmes confirmed to commence can request for withdrawal before any payment is made, recovery of the application fee will not be requested;
- After payment settlement, admitted applicants requesting withdrawal for personal reasons before or after the commencement of a Programme will not be refunded of any fees;
- If the event is postponed or canceled due to the decision of the school, the tuition and registration fees paid by the students will be refunded in full.
Important Remarks
- Participants should attend all class sessions on time, and to complete the required attendance signing (sign-in and sign-out) on each session on the attendance sheet. For the participant(s) who does not complete the sign-in and sign-out within the required period, such as arrive after the first 30 minutes of a session/leave during a session for over 30 minutes/leave before the end of a session/fail to attend a session, the participant(s) will be considered absent for that session.
- Participants who are absent from the class, late or leave earlier in a class will be regarded as absent for that session of the course, and will be affect for the certificate of completion issuance.
- A certificate of completion will be issued for participants fulfilling an attendance rate of 80%; No certificate will be issued if the absence (reasonable or unreasonable) from the participants exceed 20% of the total course duration.
- Participants are required to contact the Conselho Profissional dos Assistentes Sociais de Macau(澳門社會工作者委員會)in person for the training hour(s) declaration process if the participant(s) who has completed its training programme and able to receive the certificate of completion from the Lifelong Learning Office.
- Illness or force majeure circumstances are eligible to be considered as justified absence. A participant must submit a doctor’s certificate with signature and stamped on its statement by a registered medical institution(s) and to submit it to the Lifelong Learning Office within the next day of the leave date for an application for leave of Justified absence cannot exceed 20% of the total course duration.
- For a leave of absence request, applicants must fill out the “Leave Application Form for Lifelong Learning Programmes” and submit it to the Lifelong Learning Office before the leave is taken or after 2 working days of its request, (click this link to download the form). Failure to do this will mean that, the unpunctual participants will be recorded as absent for that particular class session.
- The personal data collected through the Online Registration Fm will only be used by Lifelong Learning Office or relevant authorized agencies for training registration, enrollment, communication, and production of certificates; all information will be processed in compliance to the “Personal Data Protection Act” (Law no. 8/2005).
