Lifelong Learning

Course Introduction:

With rising divorce rates in many parts of the world, including Hong Kong and China, couple therapy is becoming a counselling modality in demand. Yet specialized training in working with couples is a gap in most counselling programs. This two-day workshop introduces participants to a systems lens in assessing the factors that contribute to couple distress and ways to fuel their desire to make adaptive changes. We will also view couples through a cultural lens to identify values and practices that could strain or support this pivotal unit in the family.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Name 4 areas to assess a couple’s functioning
  • Identify the couple’s communication postures
  • Delineate patterns in the couple system
  • Recognize how each person’s past influences their present relationship
  • Affirm and validate couples’ universal-spiritual human needs
