English Curriculum
The English language curriculum at USJ has been designed to engage students in learning activities that will extend, enhance and enable them to be equipped for studying at an English medium university. A wide range of student-centered activities are conducted to engage students in individual and group tasks using authentic language materials. These activities include: academic essay writing, presentations, speeches, role-plays, research surveys, video creation, story writing and analysis to name a few of them. Over a one, two or three-year undergraduate cycle (depending on faculty), students are exposed to topics coming from English for General Purposes (EGP), English for Academic Purposes (EAP), and English for Specific Purposes (ESP) according to language level.
During enrollment, students at USJ undertake a placement test which enables each student to be streamed into an appropriate English level class (A1, A2, B1 & B2/C1) according to language ability and using the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFRL). Most classes include students from more than one faculty and nationality enabling the opportunity for a broader exposure to approaches and ideas in learning at the ideal level for the students.
