Celebrating the 74th Anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China together with “Happiness in Capital of Hakka in the world” – 2023′ Guangdong Han Opera National Tour – Macau Performance

To celebrate the 74th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China, the “Guangdong Han Opera Heritage Research Institute”, a national-level intangible cultural heritage protection base that has been established for more than 50 years, will perform “Happiness in Capital of Hakka in the world” – a 2023 Guangdong Han Opera National Tour, in Macao, at 3:00 pm on October 14 this year. The Institute has been performing abroad with many positive reviews in countries including: France, Australia, Mexico, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Hong Kong and Taiwan.

This collaboration is sponsored by the Meizhou Municipal Government and organised by the Guangdong Institute of Chinese Opera Heritage, in collaboration with the University of Saint Joseph, Macao (USJ) and the Associação dos conterrâneos de Karying de Macau. The performance will be hosted at the USJ’s Auditório Centenário de Fátima.

Cantonese Opera is one of the three major types of Cantonese Opera with a history of more than 300 years. It is a national intangible cultural heritage and a major opera of the Hakka people, and has been honoured as the “Peony of the South” by the beloved Premier Zhou Enlai.
