The Canon Law Public Lecture I “A Dissolução do Matrimónio em Favor da Fé (The Dissolution of the Marriage Bond in Favour of the Faith)” will take place on Wednesday, 20 November in the Paço Episcopal Auditorium, Largo da Sé, Macau.

O cân. 1056 apresenta a indissolubilidade matrimonial como uma das propriedades essenciais do matrimónio, propriedade que lhe pertence pela própria natureza do contracto matrimonial. Assim, qualquer matrimónio natural é indissolúvel. Porém, como afirma o mesmo cânone, esta indissolubilidade adquire particular firmeza quando o matrimónio é contraído entre baptizados, em razão do sacramento. Por isso, o cân. 1141 afirma que “o matrimónio rato e consumado não pode ser dissolvido por nenhum poder humano nem por nenhuma causa além da morte”. Nos outros casos, em que a indissolubilidade não adquire esta particular firmeza, é possível obter a dissolução de um vínculo matrimonial válido, em favor da fé. A lição pretende ajudar a reflectir sobre qual seja o fundamento teológico e canónico que sustenta esta possibilidade, e quais os procedimentos canónicos necessários para a alcançar.
About the Speaker:
Fr. João Vergamota, from the Patriarchate of Lisbon (Portugal), was born in 1982. After theological and canonical studies in Lisbon, he finished his doctorate in canon law in San Damaso University (Madrid, Spain). Fr. Vergamota is currently director of the Superior Institute of Canon Law, at the Catholic University of Portugal, and professor at this Institute and at the Faculty of Law of the same University, promoter of justice and defender of the bond at the Ecclesiastical Tribunal of Lisbon, and parish vicar on the outskirts of Lisbon.
