The Conference “Ephemera at the Table: Examples from the East and the West” will take place on 23 October, from 7 – 8:00PM, in Rui Cunha Foundation.

About the Talk:

Through the study of a private collection, Professor Gonçalo Vasconcelos e Sousa gives us an image of the visual impact that the Orient had on the documents used at Western tables in the 19th and 20th centuries, but also of the influence of Western practices in the Orient, in terms of the use of ephemera documents associated with major events, namely diplomatic life and important official receptions.

About the Speaker:

Prof. Gonçalo Vasconcelos e Sousa

Full Professor and President of the Scientific Council of the School of Arts of the Portuguese Catholic University; Visiting Professor at USJ. Integrated researcher at CITAR (EA-UCP) and collaborating researcher at CITCEM. Corresponding Academician of the Portuguese Academy of History (2003), the National Academy of Fine Arts (2001) and the Brazilian Academy of Art (2017), he is a member of the Brazilian Historical and Geographical Institute (2023) and the Historical and Geographical Institute of São Paulo (2010). Provider of the Venerable Third Order of St Francis of Porto since 2016.
