ABOUT DOCTORAL TALKS ON CAMPUS:
Fostering transdisciplinary perspectives in thought, research and development in the doctoral and post-doctoral programmes of the University of Saint Joseph in Macao.
ABOUT THE TALK:
This seminar is about Artificial Intelligence, which is made up of different skills and approaches ranging from the old laboratory techniques mainly concerned with hard work and practical skills passing through computer laboratory techniques until we reached a higher developmental stage known as analysis by computer modelling. At this stage, we are dealing with a new rationality: fiction is becoming reality! This kind of research led to the discovery of a virtual reality which allows the development of medicinal procedures with a great success. What a wonderful world we can have now!

ABOUT THE SPEAKER:
Maria Burguete is a scientist at the Institute Bento da Rocha Cabral in Portugal. She received her PhD in History of Science from the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich in 2000. She is a scientist and a university lecturer with teaching and research experience in multidisciplinary areas, such as chemical engineering/chemistry, biochemistry/history, and philosophy of science. She has published nine scientific books and over 30 scientific papers, mainly in the history and philosophy of science. The Scimat Program started in 2007, and the International Science Matters conferences were organised until October 2019. Since 2010, she has been a corresponding member of the European Academy of Sciences, Arts & Letters, founded in Paris in 1980. Recently, she created the first Science Matters Center in the world (Associação Scimat-Portugal/ A Non-Profit Cultural Association) based in Rocha Cabral Institute, Lisbon.
