The USJ Macao Observatory for Social Development research center and the Macau YMCA will hold a Roundtable Discussion on “Macau Sex Education in the New Era” on March, 28, 2023.
In order to discuss the current situation and future development direction and trend of sex education in different systems in Macao, experts and scholars from the United Kingdom, Hong Kong and Macao were invited as keynote speakers to the “Macau Sex Education in the New Era Roundtable”, organised by the Macao Observatory for Social Development research center of the University of Saint Joseph (USJ) and YMCA of Macau. They will share their experiences and insights on how to advance sex education in Macau in the new era. In order to make it more in line with the needs and expectations of modern young people.

Experience Sharing and Future Trends of Sexuality Education and Research for Adolescents in Macao
Speaker: Dr. Cecilia U
Dr. Cecilia U has a master’s degree in inclusive and special education from the University of Birmingham in the United Kingdom, and a doctorate in Education from the University of Sheffield in the United Kingdom. She studies early development and gifted education. She has more than 15 years of experience in SEN education and student guidance. She used to be a lecturer and course consultant at City University of Macau. She worked as a senior development officer in the Salvation Army of Hong Kong and Macau Regions for several years. She has extensive experience in social service and education administration and is currently working as a Visiting Academic at USJ.
SEN and Sex Education
Speaker: Dr. Elsa Tsang
Dr. Elsa Tsang is an Assistant Professor of Macau Kiang Wu School of Nursing, Chairperson of Macau Health Promotion Association, and Vice President of Macau Youth Research Association. She is invited by different companies, associations and schools every year to give lectures about health. She persist in writing more than 1,000 health-related columns in multiple newspapers every week.
Experience Sharing – Carrying out sex education work through games and various media
Speaker: Mr. Ivan Ieong
Mr. Ivan Ieong is currently working in the Macau YMCA and is engaged in student counceling. He promotes youth, children, parent-child education and organizes related training for parents and teachers.
