The Workshop “Preventing in order to preserve” organised by the Department of History and Heritage – Faculty of Arts and Humanities will take place on October 25 in the Conference Room of Seminary Campus.
About the Workshop:
Preventive conservation
The first part of the workshop aims to reinforce the importance of implementing a preventive conservation plan as a way of protecting our collections, exploring the main causes of degradation that can affect different types of objects.
Handling of cultural and artistic objects
In the second part of the workshop, we will address issues related to the transportation and handling of works of art, as well as practical issues such as packaging and storage spaces, always with the aim of preventing damage from occurring.
About the Speaker:
Carla Felizardo
Conservator-restorer, graduated from the Polytechnic Institute of Tomar where, between 1998 and 2005, she taught Conservation and Restoration of easel painting and polychrome wood sculpture. Since 2005, she has coordinated the activities of the Conservation and Restoration Center of the School of Arts of the Portuguese Catholic University – Porto Regional Center, of which she became director in 2013, a position she has held simultaneously with the Executive Coordination of the Degree in Art, Conservation and Restoration and the Post-Graduation in Art Markets and Collections at EA – UCP since 2018. She also teaches the curricular units Preservation and Conservation Techniques III and Preservation and Conservation Techniques IV , that focus on the conservation and restoration of polychrome wood sculpture and gilded wood carving, in the Degree in Art, Conservation and Restoration.
