6 doctoral degrees in the areas of religious studies, government studies and science; 147 master’s degrees; 90 bachelor’s degrees; 8 associate diplomas in Portuguese-Chinese translation; and 240 post-graduate diplomas in education in the Ceremony, adding to a total of 491 students graduating this year from USJ.
The University of Saint Joseph (USJ) held its 2022 Graduation Ceremony and Conferral of Doctorate Degree Honoris Causa on Saturday, 10 December 2022, at the Auditório Centenário de Fátima in Ilha Verde Campus. The event was also live-streamed. The ceremony was officiated by Ms. Ao leong U, Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture, on behalf of the Honorable Chief Executive of the Macao SAR Government with the presence of distinguished guests, including Mr. MAYO, PORFIRIO JR. M., Consul General of Consulate of the Republic of the Philippines in Macao, The Consul-General of the Republic of Angola in the Macao Special Administrative Region, Mr Eduardo Velasco Galiano, Mr.Paulo Espírito Santo Deputy secretary general of Forum Macao, Mr. Aurélio de Jesus Chiconela, Consultant of Consul General of the Republic of Mozambique in Macao, Mr. Chan Iok Wai, Head of the Department of Students under the Education and Youth Development Bureau (DSEDJ), Mr. Cheang Kun Wai, member of the Administrative Committee of the Science and Technology Development Fund (FDCT), Mr. Leong Ka Fai, Head of the Professional Development and Planning Division of the Department of Research and Planning under the Social Welfare Bureau (IAS), representatives from diplomatic corps in Macao, and representatives of other higher education institutions, donors of USJ, and local associations in Macao.
The Vice-Rector of USJ, Prof. Keith Morrison, conferred 6 doctoral degrees in the areas of religious studies, government studies and science; 147 master’s degrees; 90 bachelor’s degrees; 8 associate diplomas in Portuguese-Chinese translation; and 240 post-graduate diplomas in education in the Ceremony, adding to a total of 491 students graduating this year from USJ.
The 2022 Honorary Degrees Award of USJ was officiated by Prof. Keith Morrison, the Vice-Rector of USJ, witnessed by the Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture and other guests. Two honorary degree recipients are Mr. Chan Kei I, former chancellor of Colégio Diocesano de São José, and Dr. Jorge Neto Valente, founder and managing partner of Jorge Neto Valente Advogados, a firm of lawyers and notaries that was established over thirty years ago and is one of the largest law offices in Macao. Prof. Rochelle Ge, Dean of the School of Education, and Prof. Jenny Lao Phillips, Dean of the Faculty of Business and Law that conferred the degrees upon the two distinguished persons in the Ceremony. The senior managers of USJ on the stage included Prof. Zhang Shuguang, the Vice-Rector, Dr. Alejandro Salcedo Garcia, the Administrator, Prof. Carlos Sena Caires, Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Humanities, Prof. Franz Gassner, Dean of the Faculty of Religious Studies and Philosophy, Prof. Jacky Ho, Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences, Prof. David Gonsalves, Dean of the Institute of Science and Environment, and Prof. George Du, Dean of the Institute of Data Engineering and Sciences.
The Ceremony concluded with closing words and the benediction by the Representative of Chancellor of USJ and Chaplain of USJ, Fr Cyril Law.
