Mr. Olinto Oliveira Jr., the General Manager of the MCI Group, Hong Kong & Macau and Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) alumnus, delivered a talk on event management to BBA students on Friday 14 March 2025.

 

Mr. Emil Ip’s Portfolio class, Ms. Ivone de Jesus’ WorldLab class, and Prof. Florence Lei’s LifeLab class invited Mr. Olinto Oliveira Jr., the General Manager (Hong Kong & Macau) of the MCI Group, a global marketing communications group, to share his experiences and expertise in event management with year-2 and year-4 BBA students. 

 

Mr. Oliveira gave students a comprehensive lecture on event management basics, covering experience design, creative direction, and operational execution. Mr. Oliveira highlighted the “who, why, and what” of event attendees, stressing the need to focus on their overall experience. This is in line with the core of the WorldLab and the LifeLab classes, which emphasises experiential learning. Mr. Oliveira also demonstrated the recent applications of AI in design, explaining how AI should be seen as a useful tool rather than a shortcut. Mr. Oliveira shared the keys for successful execution and preparation for things being “messed up.” Year-4 students resonated with his stories as they are currently managing an event, the FBL Faculty Day, as their graduation assignment in the Portfolio class.

 

Mr. Oliveira is a celebrated BBA alumnus. He inspires fellow BBA students through his passion in the profession, his creativity, and his drive for success. As Mr. Oliveira shared, “Standing on the other side of the classroom was a full-circle moment. The thoughtful questions and innovative thinking displayed by these future professionals left me feeling energized and hopeful about our industry’s future.”
