USJ hosted a Mid-Autumn Celebration Event on the 13th of September, aiming to enhance students’ understanding of Chinese traditional festivals, promote cross-cultural exchange, and enrich students’ appreciation of Chinese traditional culture through various activities.
Organised by the Office for Student and Alumni Affairs (OSAA) of the University of Saint Joseph (USJ) and sponsored by the Macao Foundation, the Mid-Autumn Celebration event took place on the 13th of September. This cultural experience series was aimed to facilitate cross-cultural exchange among students and bring together faculty and students from different nationalities to appreciate the unique charm of Chinese culture and deepen their understanding of traditional festivals.
The event unfolded in the afternoon until early evening at the USJ Ilha Verde Campus. Participants not only savoured traditional Mid-Autumn festival delicacies but also engaged in a bilingual lantern riddle guessing game, allowing students to challenge themselves and enhance their understanding of Chinese culture while enjoying the fun and excitement brought by lantern riddles.
Du-Wen-Feng Feng, a year 3 student from the Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) from the Netherlands, expressed that the event effectively promoted communication among students, especially international students, and also showcased Chinese traditional culture. With lantern riddle games and mooncakes available at the booths, he hoped that USJ would organize more similar activities in the future to broaden cultural understanding.
Aiden Li, another year-3 BBA student, highlighted the significance of the event in promoting Chinese culture to USJ students, providing foreign students with a deeper insight into Chinese festivals. He also felt a sense of warmth and home-coming during the event and expressed interest in experiencing such cultural exchanges again in the future.
Simon Ng, a student from the Post-Graduate Diploma in Education, acknowledged the meticulous preparation for the event, noting the unique flavours of the mooncakes that catered to individual preferences. He appreciated the efforts of the staff and wished his fellow students a happy Mid-Autumn Festival.
This event not only celebrated the Mid-Autumn Festival but also served as a platform for cultural exchange, fostering a deeper appreciation of traditions and promoting unity among the diverse community at USJ.
Staff from OSAA also visited the Seminary Campus and Nape Campus on the 17th to deliver mooncakes and blessings to the students for the Mid-Autumn Festival.
