USJ’s Domingos Lam Centre for Research in Education (DLCRE) organizes a public lecture titled “ELF and Global Englishes: Implications for Educators”.
To respond to the diverse uses of English around the globe, a public lecture titled “ELF and Global Englishes: Implications for Educators” was organized on the 30th of October by USJ’s Domingos Lam Centre for Research in Education (DLCRE). This lecture, which attracted around 30 educators, is part of the “USJ Career Training Series” and was funded by the Macau Foundation to enhance the career development of students from various professions.
The lecture was moderated by Prof. Miranda Mak, Assistant Professor of the School of Education and coordinator of DLCRE, featuring Dr. Shirley N. Dita, Associate Professor and Chair at the Department of English and Applied Linguistics at the De La Salle University in the Philippines.
Dr. Shirley N. Dita presented the concept of English as Lingua Franca (ELF) and the broader framework of Global Englishes. She then engaged the audiences in exploring the practical implications of ELF and Global Englishes, emphasising how these concepts can empower future educators to create inclusive and culturally responsive classroom environments that respect the fluidity and diversity of English usage worldwide.
