USJ held its FRS’s Day on 4th Dec

The Faculty of Religious Studies of University of Saint Joseph (USJ) celebrated its yearly Faculty Day on December 4th 2018, at the Seminary Campus of USJ. The celebration was under the motto “The Word Was Made Flesh”. The new Dean of FRS, Rev. Dr. Stephen Morgan, opened the day with an inaugural lecture on the relevance and relation of faith and reason and the specific role of the university as community which exists, as Bl. John Henry Newman put it, to “learn to reason well in all matters”. Dr. Morgan laid out the aspiration for the Faculty of Religions Studies to be at the very heart of the Mission and Identity of the USJ.

Bishop Stephen Lee, Chancellor of USJ, celebrated the Holy Mass for the feast of St John Danascene with the whole Faculty and University Officials, among them Prof. Fr. Rector Peter Stilwell, Vice-Rector Prof. Álvaro Barbosa, Acting Vice-Rector Prof. Rochelle Ge, and the Dean of the School of Business, Prof. Jenny Lao-Phillips. At the faculty lunch, the birthdays of Prof. Fr. Rector Peter Stilwell and Fr. Fausto Gomez, OP were celebrated. The FRS Student Association organised various sports activities after lunch, where students and staff could experience first-hand what it is to have “mens sana in corpore sana”, a healthy mind in a healthy body, and specifically the joy of being called together, coming from many nations sharing life and faith by following the Word who becomes flesh.
