A Macao Cultural Tour open to non-local students was held on August 28, offering a unique opportunity to explore the rich heritage and vibrant attractions of Macao, a city known for its fusion of Eastern and Western influences.

In order to foster cross-cultural understanding and provide an immersive experience for non-local students, the Office for Student and Alumni Affairs (OSAA) of the University of Saint Joseph (USJ) organised a Macao Cultural Tour open to non-local students on August 28, 2023. The excursion offered a unique opportunity to explore the rich heritage and vibrant attractions of Macao, a city known for its fusion of Eastern and Western influences.

The tour commenced with a visit to the Commemorative Gallery of the Macao Basic Law, an important landmark that showcases the historical significance of Macao’s legal development. Students had the chance to dwelve into the cultural and historical milestones that have shaped Macao, gaining a deeper understanding of its unique governance structure of “One Country, Two Systems”. After that, the participants visited the Lotus Square, a destination renowned for its iconic sculpture, the Lotus Flower. Symbolizing the transfer of sovereignty, Beijing presented Macau with this significant gift in 1999 in commemoration of the historical handover of the city from Portuguese administration to China.

The final stop of the excursion was the Macao Grand Prix Museum. Students were immersed in the thrilling world of the Macao Grand Prix, which is one of the most prestigious and challenging street races in the world. Through interactive exhibits and displays, they gained insight into the race’s evolution, celebrated victories, and the enduring passion for motorsports that has made Macao a global hub for car-racing excitement.

OSAA is dedicated to providing a whole-person student development that extends beyond the confines of the classroom. The Macao Cultural Tour proved to be a resounding success, offering non-local students a captivating blend of history, art, and sporting heritage. The immersive experience fostered a deeper appreciation for Macau’s unique cultural landscape and provided a platform for cultural exchange among students from diverse backgrounds.
