This academic year, ISE/USJ launched the mobile exhibition “Macao’s Mangroves: A Coastal Treasure” to Macao schools. The first exhibition was held at Yeut Wah College last Monday, November 7th, 2022.

The Institute of Science and Environment (ISE) of University of Saint Joseph (USJ) launched the mobile exhibition “Macao’s Mangroves: A Coastal Treasure” again this year, which started at Yeut Wah College last Monday, November 7th, 2022.  In line with the university’s commitment to addressing the SDGs, this event is part of the new Drop by Drop project  “Wetland ecosystems: a nature-based solution for coastal protection and plastic pollution entrapment in Macao”.

The exhibition, which showcases the local mangrove ecosystems as well as new content about plastic pollution in the oceans, is a collaboration between the team led by Prof. Karen Tagulao of ISE/USJ and Dr. Cristina Calheiros and Dr. José Texeira of CIIMAR. Other schools are booked to feature the exhibition from now until May 2023.

The event is complemented by workshops, coastal clean-ups, public talks and guided field visits to the local mangroves sites, aiming to raise community awareness, and to encourage students and other members of the local community to be proactive in addressing plastic pollution in addition to helping maintain the health of the mangrove ecosystems.
