The USJ Philosophy Alumni-formed Macau Association of Chinese and Western Philosophy (MACWP) and the Office for Student and Alumni Affairs (OSAA) held a one of a kind thesis and oral defence workshop titled “Co-Construct Your Thesis & Oral Defence”, on Tuesday, 31 May 2022, at the USJ Ilha Verde Campus.
The USJ Philosophy Alumni-formed Macau Association of Chinese and Western Philosophy (MACWP) and the Office for Student and Alumni Affairs (OSAA) held a one of a kind thesis and oral defence workshop titled “Co-Construct Your Thesis & Oral Defence”, on Tuesday, 31 May 2022, at the USJ Ilha Verde Campus.
Joshua Yuan, Chairman of the MACWP, said that “a stifling-tied atmosphere in an oral defence would be inevitable, particularly for students who have never experienced that.” therefore, he came up with the idea of a workshop aimed to provide practice, support and peer review to USJ Philosophy master students who are preparing for this year’s oral defence.
The mock oral defences of the three Philosophy master students were presented during the workshop and received great feedback from the participating guests. The participants commented on their performance and questioned the thesis’s fundamental argument, the logic behind the research question to the conclusion, and asked for clarification of the definitions of terms.
The evening’s interaction did not just create an Academic Splendour that permeated the whole room; it also offered great help to the students to better prepare for their upcoming oral defences.
Speakers and other participants agreed that doing this workshop as a continuous event is an excellent initiative.
