USJ hosted a public lecture titled “A diplomacia do livro e a memória” (“Book diplomacy and memory”), organised by the Consulate-General of Brazil in Hong Kong and Macao, in partnership with USJ and the Leitorado Guimarães Rosa.
On Wednesday, 26 June 2023, the University of Saint Joseph (USJ) hosted the lecture titled “A diplomacia do livro e a memória” (“book diplomacy and national memory”) presented by Dr. Marco Lucchesi, president of the National Library Foundation (FBN) of Brazil. Dr. Lucchesi shared his vast knowledge and worldview on Brazil’s cultural and constitutional heritages, as well as showing the importance of the “book” as an instrument capable of opening borders.
The event was organised by the Consulate-General of Brazil in Hong Kong and Macao, in partnership with USJ and Leitorado Guimarães Rosa. The lecture was attended by the consuls of the Portuguese-speaking countries in Macao, delegates from Forum Macao, librarians, teachers, and students.
Marco Lucchesi is a poet, writer, novelist, translator, historian, and Esperantist. He is a member of the Brazilian Academy of Letters and a full professor at the Faculty of Letters of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ). He holds a Master’s and PhD in Literature Science from UFRJ, with a post-doctorate in Renaissance Philosophy from the University of Cologne, Germany. In 2016, he received the title of Doctor Honoris Causa from Tibiscus University, Timisoara, and, in 2020, the title of Doctor Honoris Causa from Aurel Vlaicu University, Arad (Romania). He chaired the Brazilian Academy of Letters (ABL) from 2018 to 2021., and is currently president of the National Library Foundation (FBN).
