MOU Signing Ceremony Marks the Launch of COBERTA: A BRICS E-Health Research Taskforce

COBERTA aims to unite countries and continents in a shared mission to enhance healthcare systems globally. The consortium will leverage the latest e-health technologies and big data to drive innovation, reduce costs, and improve patient outcomes.
The University of Saint Joseph (USJ) Macao is proud to announce the successful signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) formalizing the creation of the Consortium of BRICS E-health Research Taskforces Association (COBERTA) during the 8th International Conference on Big Data and Internet of Things (BIDIOT) Conference held at USJ’s Ilha Verde Campus from September 12 to 14. This event marked a significant step towards advancing global health through innovative e-health solutions.
COBERTA is a collaborative initiative aimed at fostering research and development in the e-health sector. In Portuguese, “COBERTA” evokes a sense of being ‘covered’ and ‘safe’, reflecting its mission to create a caring and supportive research environment.

The consortium will leverage the latest e-health technologies and big data to drive innovation, reduce costs, and improve patient outcomes. By creating a transformative platform for data-sharing and project collaboration, COBERTA seeks to enhance access to healthcare services worldwide.
The inaugural meeting and MOU signing ceremony were attended in person by the co-founders of COBERTA, including Professor João Alexandre Lobo Marques, Vice-Rector for Research and Innovation at USJ Macao, and Professor Joaquim Celestino Junior, Emeritus Professor from the State University of Ceará in Brazil, and online including Professor Pedro Miguel Rodrigues from Universidade Católica Portuguesa of Porto in Portugal, Professor Nilanjan Dey from The Techno International New Town in India, Professor Huafeng Qin from Chongqing Technology and Business University in China, and Professor Richard Charles Millham from Durban University of Technology in South Africa.
The consortium invites participants and stakeholders to contribute to its research endeavours by sharing datasets, technical resources, and knowledge. COBERTA will also seek funding from both local and global agencies, including the BRICS fund, to support its initiatives.
