On the 7th and 14th of September, the Office for Student and Alumni Affairs (OSAA) , University of Saint Joseph (USJ) held two Induction sessions to welcome new bachelor’s students into university life.
USJ strives to provide our students with a sound academic base while also contributing to their integrated personal and social development. We believe today, more than ever, this development requires a focus on social, economic, and environmental sustainability. Therefore, in the first Induction Session, students were led to understand the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through participation in the 2030 SDGs Game with the support from Society of Food & Environmental Health (Macao). The Game gives students direct experience co-creating a sustainable world. The 2030 SDGs Game makes extremely complex issues accessible for students to begin an understanding, while stimulating their natural curiosity to learn more. The Game activates students’ natural impulse to work toward a worthy goal, while inspiring and motivating them to take action in the real world.
In the second Induction Session, students were given the resources and useful tips to better adjust to university life. Our USJ counsellor, Ms. Helen Lao, introduced the key elements for effective time and stress management through an interactive presentation. Representatives from different USJ student clubs also took the opportunity to welcome the new students and invited them to join student activities to enrich their campus experience. Last but not least, OSAA staff introduced the online platforms, USJ Connect and Coursera. Students were encouraged to make good use of these resources to enhance their whole-person development and strengthen their bond with the USJ community.
USJ is achieving SDGs 3, 4, and 17 through the above Induction Sessions.
